XHTML 1.1 Becomes a W3C Recommendation

On 31 May, W3C released XHTML 1.1 - Module-based XHTML as a W3C Recommendation. The specification is stable, and has been reviewed by the W3C Membership, who favor its adoption by industry. XHTML 1.1 is a reformulation of XHTML 1.0 Strict based on XHTML modules, including the ruby module. Read the press release and testimonials.

Ruby Annotation Becomes a W3C Recommendation

On 31 May, W3C released Ruby Annotation as a W3C Recommendation. The specification is stable, and has been reviewed by the W3C Membership, who favor its adoption by industry. Ruby is a short run of text alongside base text typically used in East Asian documents to indicate pronunciation or annotation. Read the press release and testimonials.

Offices Update

Upcoming Office Appearances

Michael Wilson, chair of the W3C UK Office, will be among CLRC staff presenting W3C on a stand at Internet World Exhibition at Earls Court, London 5-7 June 2001.

Gioacchino La Vecchia, staff member of the W3C Italian Office, participates at a round table, "The role of Italy in the development of standards and in the government of the net," on June 15, 2001, in Crema, Italy, organized by ISOC Italy.

Ivan_Herman, Head of Offices, gives a keynote at the event XML for Financial Services to be held 18-19 June in Stockholm, Sweden.

Michael Wilson, chair of the W3C UK Office, will give a keynote at XML for Financial Services to be held 19-20 June in London, UK.

W3C Italian Office Supports EuroWeb 2001

The W3C Italian Office is supporting the EuroWeb 2001 conference to be held 18-20 December 2001, in Venice, Italy. The conference focus is the "Web in Public Administration." Leaders in the field will present the latest developments in Web technology, as applied to public administration and discuss the issues and challenges facing the Web community as it moves into the 21st century. The deadline for submitting papers is 15 July.
